In this Russian study, sinusoidally-modulated currents (SMC) were used in a complex treatment for chronic gastroduodenitis (CGD) in 25 children. A comparable control group of 20 children was treated by conventional means only. The patients were 6-14 yr old, with a disease history of 1-6 yr. The major CGD symptoms are pains and dyspepsia, along with disorders in gastric acid secretion, immune function, diskinesia of biliary ducts, etc. The currents (100 Hz, 50% modulation, 2-3 sec "burst + pause" duration) were applied to the epigastric area and paravertebrally to the segmental reflexogenic zone (Th7-Th12). The current strength was adjusted so as to induce a sensation of a painless vibration. The course consisted of 8-10 procedures lasting for 6-10 minutes each. Dyspeptic disorders disappeared, on the average, in 4 days with the SMC treatment, and in 8 days without it. SMC also significantly decreased gastric hypersecretion. [BENER 15199]
