Chronic Productive Inflammation of Orbital Tissues Treated in Ukraine with Pulsed Magnetic Fields.

Various magnetic fields have been successfully employed to treat eye traumas and burns, uveitis, blepharitis, glaucoma, myopia, endocrine ophthalmopathy, and other conditions. Researchers at the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences tested whether a treatment with a pulsed magnetic field (maximum pulse amplitude of 8.5 mT (85 G)) would assist recovery of patients with chronic productive inflammation of orbital tissues (CPIOT). The magnetic field procedures facilitated recovery, and differences from the control group reached a maximum by the 10th day. In the magnetic field-treated group, eye swelling decreased in 94.9% of the patients, exophthalmos decreased in 83.7%, eye mobility improved in 90.8% of cases, and so forth. The respective numbers in the control group were 83%, 71%, and 81%. [BENER 14757]

Editor's Note: While Pulsed Magnetic Fields are used around the USA for bone and soft tissue healing, we know of no one in the United States who uses it to treat inflammation of orbital tissues.
