Decimeter microwaves (DMW) are one of the most effective physical factors in therapy for osteoarthrosis (OA). However, when OA is complicated with venous insufficiency (VI) which can result from a varicose disease or a post-thrombophlebitis syndrome, thermal and vasodilatory effects of DMW considerably decrease the effectiveness of the therapy. Based on published data, magnetotherapy (MT) improves venous blood circulation and rheological blood properties, thus decreasing tissue edema caused by VI. The purpose of the present study was to compare the clinical effectiveness of DMW and MT in patients with OA and with both OA and VI. The results of the study indicated that DMW are most effective in OA patients without VI, while MT appears to be a better choice when OA is accompanied by VI. [BENER 13828]
