Millimeter-Wave Radiation in the Treatment of Healing Wounds

The purpose of this work was to study MMW effects on the chemical composition of granulation-fibrous tissue (GFT) which forms at a wound site. Injured areas in rats were exposed to MMW at different wavelengths for 5 consecutive days after an operation. Continuous wave (CW) irradiation significantly decreased the glycoprotein content of GFT, indicating a reduction in the inflammatory process. In contrast, exposure to frequency-modulated MMW enhanced production of the glycoproteins, thus indicating stimulation of the inflammatory reaction.
