Osteolytic changes developed around the distal end of a femoral prosthesis implanted 36 mo earlier in a 44-yr old male to correct a congenital hip defect. The patient was still doing well clinically at 40 mo, however X-rays showed that the osteolysis had progressed. The patient then used a pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) stimulator for 2 years at an average of 6-10 hours daily. PEMF stimulation in combination with appropriate medication appeared to reverse osteolytic changes associated with a femoral prosthesis used during hip arthroplasty.

I was just reading about the 44 year old guy that reversed osteolysis. I would like more information on this if possible as I have the same thing. I am 40 and it looks like more hip surgery. If I could slow this thing down or decrease it I would be very greatful.

My physician has been using capacitively coupled electric fields for painful hip replacements associated with osteoporosis about the stem tip for 10 years. There has been considerable benefit in a study of 15 patients. I am using the same device for a painful lumbar spine following 3 operations. I would be interested in finding out more about the use of pemfs in the management of chronic pain.
